Temperature Probes

Selection of Temperature Probes

There are a number of temperature probes in different confiigurations supplied by Meascom:

RTD and Thermocouple Type Probes: RTD and Thermocouple temperature probes can be supplied as follows: without inbuilt temperature transmitters. with non isolated temperature transmitters (RTD type probes only) with isolated temperature transmitters (suitable for both RTD and thermocouple sensors) with isolated temperature transmitters including HART communication Thermowells can be supplied with the ordered probes. The standard stocked thermowells have process connection and probe connection of 1/2"BSP but other connection fittings sizes are available. Probes are fitted with termianl blocks when no transmitters are installed. When 4-20mA outputs are required, the blocks are removed and hockey puck style transmitters are installed. Thermocouple Probes: Lengths from 50mm to 600mm. Type J and Type K are generally stocked in shorter lengths. Other thermocouple types and probe lengths can be ordered Pt100 RTD Probes: Lengths from 50mm to 600mm. Pt100 probes are generally stocked in shorter lengths. Other RTD types and probe lengths can be ordered. Choice of Isolated or Non-Isolated Loop Powered Temperature Transmitters With temperature probes using RTD's, the sensors are generally isolated from the probe metal allowing non-isolated 4-20mA loop powered transmitters to be used as a lower cost alternative. Isolated 4-20mA transmitters are still preferred though, as these have higher noise immunity and are electrically safer in the industrial environment. With temperature probes using thermocouples, the sensor may touch the metal of the probe so isolated transmitters are supplied. This avoids ground loops. The supplied 4-20mA transmitters can be ordered with or without HART communications built in. This commnunication protocol is used in industry to pass on transmitter data digitally to the SCADA system. HART versions require a HART modem or HART communicator. The transmitter temperature measurement ranges are configured free by Meascom prior to shipment. This also ensures that the equipment has been checked by a qualified engineer or technician and was confirmed functionally perfect prior to shipping.
