Meascom’s engineering heritage spans more than four decades of becoming australian water quality instrumentation experts through practical experience in industrial instrumentation, water quality measurement and monitoring technologies.
Our story began in 1985 with a simple belief that has guided every stage of our journey:
Reliable measurements come from practical engineering, carefully selected instruments and the experience to know the difference.
From designing instrumentation systems and supporting Australian industry through to today’s water quality testing equipment and advanced monitoring technologies, our commitment has always remained the same…
Helping customers Measure With Confidence.
1985 – The Beginning of Mann Industries
In 1985, founder Ian Schmahmann established Mann Industries, an Australian company specialising in industrial instrumentation, process measurement and control equipment.
Over the following two decades, Mann Industries became recognised throughout Australia, New Zealand, Asia, The United Kingdom and the United States of America for supplying quality industrial instrumentation together with practical engineering advice and technical support. Mann Industries products were deployed in the hundreds in major infratructure projects in the power, water and manufacturing sectors of the industrial market.
Mann Induustries grew successfully becasue of their reputation for reliability, modern features and ease of use together with their extended warranty.
Those same principles continue to guide Meascom today.
2004 – A New Chapter
In February 2004, Mann Industries was acquired by Weidmüller, concluding almost twenty years of building one of Australia’s respected instrumentation businesses. As a testament to the reliability and longevity of Mann Industries products, they are still being bought and sold today some 22 years after the last one was manufactured under the Mann Industries name.
Following the acquisition, Ian continued working as an engineering consultant, applying his experience to industrial measurement systems, electronic design and monitoring projects across a wide range of Australian industries.
These consulting years provided opportunities to solve complex engineering challenges while remaining closely connected to the practical needs of customers working in the field.
2012–2017 – Developing Intelligent Monitoring Systems
As wireless communications and cloud technologies began transforming industrial monitoring, Ian focused on developing new generations of remote monitoring systems capable of collecting, transmitting and analysing measurement data from distributed locations.
These projects combined electronics, embedded software, wireless communications and cloud technologies, providing valuable experience in designing systems that were not only technically capable but also practical, reliable and easy to maintain.
Many of the engineering principles developed during this period continue to influence Meascom’s approach to instrumentation today.
2017 – ModernisingAustralia’s Wayside Rail Lubrication
In 2017, Ian was commissioned by a major player in rail lubrication systems to redevelop and modernise one of their platforms used for managing the dispensing of lubrication onto the tracks. The project provided the opportunity to apply practical engineering principles to improve reliability, maintainability and long-term performance. The resulting platform continues to be successfully deployed throughout the Australian rail industry today.
The project reinforced a philosophy that still drives Meascom:
Good engineering is not only about adding more features. It is also about creating systems that continue to perform reliably year after year.
Continuing to Innovate
Engineering never stands still.
Over the years, experience gained through industrial instrumentation has naturally expanded into environmental monitoring, wireless sensing, cloud-connected measurement systems and predictive condition monitoring technologies.
Today, Meascom has become the Australian water quality instrumentation expert. Every day it helps customers with this accumulated knowledge, supplying the right water quality testing equipment, this giving customers confidence in their measurements.
Every product we supply reflects the same engineering philosophy developed over more than forty years.
We believe in:
- Carefully selecting products that perform reliably.
- Understanding how every instrument works.
- Verifying performance wherever practical before dispatch.
- Providing practical engineering advice—not simply product specifications.
- Supporting customers throughout the life of their instruments.
Why Our Experience Matters
Many companies sell measuring instruments.
Few have spent decades designing measurement systems, solving engineering problems and helping customers achieve reliable results in real-world applications.
That practical experience influences every recommendation we make.
Whether you’re selecting a portable water quality meter, choosing a dissolved oxygen probe, measuring conductivity or monitoring environmental conditions, our goal is to help you select equipment that delivers dependable results—not simply sell another instrument.
Our experience also allows us to produce practical technical articles, application guides and educational resources that help customers better understand the science of measurement rather than simply operate an instrument.
Looking Forward
Technology continues to evolve, but our philosophy remains unchanged.
Meascom’s goal is not simply to sell water quality testing equipment.
Our goal is to become Australia’s most trusted source of practical and expert knowledge, carefully selected instruments and engineering support for professionals involved in water quality instrumentation and environmental monitoring.
By combining decades of engineering experience with carefully selected products and ongoing technical support, we continue our journey as Australian Water Quality Measurement Experts
